Camp Gertrude Coleman, founded
in 1925, sits right on the Cahaba River with lots of woods,
hiking trails, and areas to explore. There's a swimming
pool, horse stable, ropes/challenge course, plus traditional
camp activities. Located near Trussville, Alabama, the camp
is close to Interstates 59 and 459. The campsite itself
features a large dining hall with a kitchen, open-air gym
for activities and rainy day events, modern healthcare area
with isolation capabilities, nature center, and primitive
camping areas.
As a camper, you'll stay in cabin units of three to seven small cabins. Three to six campers stay in each cabin, while the unit leader and counselors stay in a nearby cabin. Each cabin unit has a picnic shelter for cookouts and unit activities. Young campers may be housed in bunkhouses with staff.
For more information and directions, contact Camp Director
Laura Elliott at (205) 655-3782, toll-free (866) 882-3572,
or email.
ACA Accreditation
Camp Coleman is accredited by the ACA (American Camp Association). The ACA logo indicates that a camp's management has invited trained camp professionals to verify its compliance with over 224 individual standards designed to evaluate every aspect of camp operation including facilities, program, healthcare services, food services, operational management, human resources, and administration. ACA accreditation goes beyond Health Department or state licensing requirements to identify practices that are recognized as the highest standards established for camps.
